Biore is a brand that is probably best known for their pore strips, but they do have a selection of other cleansing products too. One of their lines is based on the use of charcoal, and I have 3 of those products here today.

Biore Charcoal products

The Deep Pore Charcoal Cleanser is a grey-black gel cleanser. I don’t find that it lathers very much, but it does have a refreshing menthol cool sensation when it is washed away. It has a matching menthol scent, which is unexpected from the colour.

I find it leaves my skin feeling clean, but a touch dry. It’s meant to be a daily cleanser, but I find it too drying for that; it worked better as an every-other-day cleanser for me.

The Self Heating One Minute Mask was a fun and quick experience. You simply apply to a damp face, massage for a minute, and then wash off. While massaging, the mask heats up to a comfortable and relaxing warmth. I didn’t find the warmth lasted though, as soon as you stop rubbing, that section goes cool and won’t reheat, even if you rub again.

The mask has the same menthol smell as the cleanser, and once rinsed off, has the same cool sensation. Using the products together heightens this experience.

One tip: before opening the mask package, squish it around to mix up the product. I found the clay seemed to separate from the liquid, which made it hard to remove from the package and hard to achieve the right experience on your face. When I mixed it up first, everything seemed to work better.

I’m ashamed to say I haven’t used the Pore Penetrating Charcoal Bar yet. I’m really not a bar soap kind of person, I much prefer mess-free bottles and tubes. I do think I’ve talked my husband into using this once his current bar soap is finished, so I’ll be sure to report back once I know what he thinks.

Overall, Biore has a lot more to offer than just pore strips. The two charcoal products I used are refreshing and left my skin feeling clean. The slightly disturbing black shade of the products adds to the experience, and makes it easy to remember what products you’re using, since how often is your cleanser black?

  1. I like that the masks come in individual pouches – I always find I use too much when I pour it out of a bottle myself. I’ll have to check it out!

  2. I’ve only tried the cleanser and I absolutely adore it. I use it once every few days since it is quite a deep clean.

  3. I have been curious about the Charcoal cleanser but if it’s drying on the skin then it probably won’t be wise for me to try. I have dry and dehydrated skin so I need a more hydrating cleanser.

    • It is a little dry, but a good moisturizer afterward helps solve it. I think it acts like a mud mask in terms of drying.

  4. A black cleanser – that certainly is different! It sounds like it gives a good deep cleanse too.

  5. I use the bar soap and I like it alot. It’s 1/4 the price of the bottle cleanser. I like something that cleans off my full face of makeup without making my face dry. This does the trick for me! I purchased it while I was waiting for my Clinique Take the Day Off to arrive (in desperate need!) and I’ve kept using it since.
