Hi everyone! I’m interrupting your regularly scheduled program here at Workaday Beauty today for a special Canadian Beauty Blogger guest post!
Before I begin, I’m Danielle, and you can find me at Darling Magpie, where I blog about beauty, skincare, nail polish and, quite often, tea! But here at Workaday Beauty today my post is going to be about this year’s Pantone colour of the year duo: Rose Quartz & Serenity!
Every year when Pantone announces their colour of the year, an assortment of official and non-official products are released to tie in. Often for a premium. But as Rose Quartz & Serenity are baaaasically a pastel baby pink and slightly deeper shade of baby blue, I realized I had an ABUNDANCE of pastels from the Great Pastel Trend of 2011/2012, so why not test stuff out in my own collection? And as a bonus, all with products under $10?
Eyes – Essence: All About Candies eyeshadow palette
I absolutely LOVE. THIS. PALETTE. Full-stop. Almost all of Essence’s eyeshadow palettes are $5 and I highly recommend grabbing one, even if you only want one or two of the shades! The colours are extremely blendable, highly pigmented and pretty long-lasting if you use a good base or primer. I particularly love the peach and lavender shades, but love to explore the other shades. And as you can see, there are baby pink and baby blue shades that are PERFECT for Rose Quartz & Serenity. Win!
Face – Essence: Bloom Me Up Shimmer Powder
FULL DISCLOSURE. I was really tired when I took these photos and SOMEHOW didn’t realize that I photographed the eyeshadow instead. (Here’s the shimmer powder.) This isn’t my FAVOURITE pink-coloured shimmer powder or highlighter, but for less than $5 it is NOT BAD AT ALL. If you can’t afford to buy The Balm’s Cindy Lou Manizer or Benefit’s Rockateur, this is a decent dupe.
Nails – Essie: Muchi, Muchi & Bikini So Teeny
This was the first thing I thought of when I saw the Pantone colours this year. Muchi, Muchi is a very sheer, pale baby pink that requires 3-4 thin coats for opacity (the polish is quite streaky) but delivers a GREAT result and evens out nicely, while Bikini So Teeny is a dusty baby blue that I only needed to use 2 coats of to achieve opacity. Both of these are shimmer free, creme polishes so they would work really well with a glossy top coat or a matte coat.
Lips – NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Istanbul
And last but not least, a pink lip! Nyx has a wide variety of lip products from tinted glosses to highly pigmented lip creams and lipsticks, so there’s bound to be a baby pink that will flatter you. The soft matte lip creams have a cupcake-y/vanilla scent and are really soft and dry quickly on the lip. It’s not as long-lasting as higher end products like Too Faced or Kat Von D, but for $5-7? Yeah, NOT COMPLAINING.
And there you have it! You don’t need to go out and buy these special ‘limited’ collections that are basically… just pastel colours. Dig into your makeup collection or pop over to the drug store and there’s SOOO many options instead.
Thanks Sarah for letting me guest post this week! Pop over to Darling Magpie if you want to see more!
