This past weekend saw an abrupt switch in weather from hot and sunny to cool and rainy, which means fall is coming soon. So it seems appropriate that I’m sharing the nail polishes from the fall 2016 Mary Kay line today.

There are 3 nail polishes in this collection: Gold is Bold (metallic yellow gold), Rosy Encore (metallic pink gold) and Blue Debut (dark blue).

Mary Kay in Gold is Bold

Gold is Bold is a metallic yellow gold, and while that shade usually makes my skin look quite red, this gold is light enough that it doesn’t do that.

Like most metallic nail polishes, brush marks can be visible, so be gentle when applying. Other than that, it applies easily and self-levels well. I find most Mary Kay polishes are good at application, but they do have a strong smell.

Mary Kay in Rosy Encore

Rosy Enscore is a metallic pink gold, almost a bronze. It also plays nice with my skin tone.

This one applies just like the other one. One thing to note: while these remove fairly easily, there is a lot of tiny micro glitter which gets everywhere. It wipes off the nail easily, no scrubbing, but I definitely had glitter flecks all over my hands, even after washing them.

Mary Kay in Blue Debut

Last, but not least, is Blue Debut, which is a very dark, almost black, blue.

The formula on this one is quite surprising. It’s very thin, almost like a jelly polish, but it’s so pigmented that any jelly effect is basically lost in the darkness.

Mary Kay fall 2016 stamped

Seeing these colours, I was immediately drawn to a stamped nail art look. I wanted to try a double stamped look, since I thought the two golds would make a nice contrast, but I had a surprise when I stamped them. These look basically identical. Can you tell which fingers are Gold is Bold, and which are Rosy Debut?

My stamped pattern is from Born Pretty Store stamp BPL-030, which features several lace patterns with flowers. I like the end look, but it wasn’t quite what I was going for.

As you can see from the macro, the gold polishes stamped really well. They remain opaque and clear, with just a few dots of glitter migrating out of the lines. It’s that tiny glitter that gets everywhere on removal.

Overall, the trio of Mary Kay nail polishes in the fall 2016 collection are very nice. I like the colour combination, and think it is very fall appropriate. Will you be picking any of these up?
